Comic Sans Makes My Eyes Bleed

Hey there guys, it’s been a while hasn’t it? Well, that’s because I’ve been very busy with college. You know … papers, presentations, studying and all that *ahem* exciting stuff. Anyway, I wanted to let you guys know what I’ve been up to these days. I recently bought a new smartphone, a HTC Incredible S and I’m lovin’ it! I see no reason whatsoever to buy an iPhone when this phone does everything I could possibly want. I’ve been hung up on playing Ocarina of Time on it whenever I have to wait somewhere. Quite addictive indeed.

Anyway, I wanted to share a trend that I’ve noticed while walking around on campus these last few weeks. A lot of students (first years and older) are using the Comic Sans MS font more and more and it frustrates me to no end. Why you ask? Because it’s butt-ugly to be quite frank and it has no place in a business college. Here’s why:

  • it’s too bold,
  • there’s little difference between normal, bold and italics so highlighting certain words in a text doesn’t work well,
  • it’s a crude font with short letter endings,
  • it’s even uglier when used in all caps (example: in titles),
  • it’s exhausting to read and strains the eyes more than a more formal font,
  • it’s used too often.

Well, that’s my opinion anyway. I’m sure there’s been scientific research into fonts and their uses. A lot of people seem to disagree with me though since it’s still used to often. I’ve seen Comic Sans used in business colleges, papers, formal presentations, government documents and in police departments. Seriously, what the hell?!

Don’t get me wrong though, there are uses for the font. Like for kids under the age of 11, comics, cartoons, etc. It’s just not for more formal or grown-up occassions.

Anyway, go watch the little presentation over at Comic Sans Criminal and watch the short YouTube clip below why even Hitler thinks Comic Sans MS is crap (seriously, it’s funny)

PS: Now that you’re thinking twice about using Comic Sans as a font, do the same for WordArt … nobody wants to see that either.

Steve Jobs (56) Passed Away

Apple announced that Steve Jobs passed away yesterday, he was 56 years old. The charismatic Jobs was co-founder and CEO of Apple since 1976. Steve Jobs has been fighting cancer for years and stepped down as CEO of Apple in August 2011.

Jobs stood at the base of the immensely popular products such as the Apple Macintosh computers, the iPod, iPhone and iPad.

Jobs was born on 24 February 1955 in San Francisco. In 2004 jobs was diagnosed with pancreascancer, and in 2009 he had to undergo a liver transplant.

he will be sorely missed and always remembered as a visionary with a very unique style. There is no doubt about it that he changed our way of life. My only concern is that there’s no one to fill the large shoes he left behind …

Read below to read some statements and reactions from other people in the business.

Bill Gates: was quoted by The New York Times as saying that he was “truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’s death.” He added: “The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.”

Mark Zuckerberg: “Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you.”

Sergey Brin: “From the earliest days of Google, whenever Larry and I sought inspiration for vision and leadership, we needed to look no farther than Cupertino. Steve, your passion for excellence is felt by anyone who has ever touched an Apple product (including the macbook I am writing this on right now). And I have witnessed it in person the few times we have met.

On behalf of all of us at Google and more broadly in technology, you will be missed very much. My condolences to family, friends, and colleagues at Apple.”

Larry Page: “I am very, very sad to hear the news about Steve. He was a great man with incredible achievements and amazing brilliance. He always seemed to be able to say in very few words what you actually should have been thinking before you thought it. His focus on the user experience above all else has always been an inspiration to me. He was very kind to reach out to me as I became CEO of Google and spend time offering his advice and knowledge even though he was not at all well. My thoughts and Google’s are with his family and the whole Apple family.”

Steve Jobs Resigns As CEO Of Apple

Steve jobs as resigned as CEO of the American technology company Apple. The 56-year-old Jobs who built Apple from a small company in a garage to a large multinational (together with Steve Wozniak) will still be involved in the company as head of the board of directors. Tim Cook, the number 2 of Apple will succeed Jobs as CEO. Jobs has been CEO for the last 14 years.

Jobs has had health problems for a while now and we all expected that this day would come soon, but it is a sad day nevertheless. In January of this year Jobs announced another leave of absence due to health issues (the 3rd time in 7 years). Steve jobs has survived a curable form of pancreatic cancer and had a liver transplant. His last public appearance dates back to the start of June, when he introduced the iCloud to the world.

In a press conference Jobs said that ‘I always said that when the day should come when I am no longer qualified to live up to the duties and expectations as the CEO of Apple, I would be the first to admit it. Unfortunately, that day has now arrived’.

In a recent interview with Tim Cook, the new CEO, he said that he’ll hold true to all the principles and teachings of Steve Jobs.

We can only hope that the company will hold true to its ideals and that we can expect more of the same in terms of products and service in the near future.

We’re baaaaaack!

Hey there guys

After almost a month of absence due to holidays and other circumstances we’re finally back to bring you more interesting articles on gaming, comics, movies and more!

There will be some changes however. First of all, I’m running the site alone again after my associates decided to invest more time in other matters. Secondly, this means that there won’t be as many articles a week as before but don’t worry, it’ll still be plenty!

Lastly, I’ll try to keep the articles shorter and thus more readable for everyone (and I don’t have to invest hours a day in them because I just don’t have the time anymore.

Anyway, thanks for sticking with us during our absense and welcome back!

How To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse In 6 Steps

Yeah, thought I’d pitch in on all those doomsday predictions and prophecies on how the world will end. Let’s take a look at zombies though, instead of climate change! Zombies have been a ‘fear’ of all times and have been depicted in countless movies, comics, cartoon series, books … you name it. While protagonists often go down fighting I’ll teach you how to survive a zombie apocalypse should one occur…

Instructions

 Things You’ll Need
  • Food
  • Firearms
  • Ammunition
  • Medical supplies
  • Sword or machete
  • Radio
  • Walkie-talkie

Check the link below to find your one-stop-shop for all your zombie-fighting goodies:

Zombie Tools

let’s move on to the 6 steps you should follow in order to survive:

  1. Stay informed. Watch news reports and listen to the radio. In addition to the Emergency Response Message, you should hear information about the spread of the undead, reports of safe areas and suggestions as to what survivors should do. You’ll need a radio that can run on batteries and solar power if possible. Also, using a walkie-talkie can keep you in tune with others who may be in need of help–or offering it.
  2. Avoided heavily populated areas. If the zombies can spread their virus, curse or disease, a densely populated area will be more of a breeding ground than a safe haven. On the other hand, avoid being totally isolated, in case you have to face a horde of undead yourself. You want a moderately populated area that affords quick exits and good protection. in short, GTFO out of the big ass crowded city!
  3. Find law-enforcement or military assistance. Provided that civilization hasn’t fallen apart, you may be able to find police or soldiers providing safety and armed protection. Always make them identify themselves verbally before approaching, to ensure that they are not zombified …
  4. Learn to defend yourself. Shooting and hacking with a bladed weapon will come in handy. If you’re lucky, the living dead will go down with shots to the head. Don’t waste bullets on body shots, as they will prove ineffective. Rely on cutting with a sword, large knife or machete so you can save ammo. Severing their brain stem should do the trick.
  5. Beware of your fellow survivors. Sometimes, they may be the biggest threat to your survival. Other humans who want your supplies or who have lost their minds in the disaster could try to kill you. Never let everyone know about all of your supplies, and never let your guard down completely. If someone is acting mysterious or weird, consider leaving immediately.
  6. Stay prepared. Don’t fight zombies in your T-shirt, that’d be pretty stupid; wear protective clothing if possible. Have non-perishable food and sleep when you can. Most of the time, death by the living dead is a result of careless mistakes and poor planning. Forewarned is forearmed.

Voila, that’s all you need to survive I guess, if not please share in the comment section below! Also, to stay on the subject here’s a track to listen to while you prepare:
