With the release of the highly anticipated Nintendo 3DS and the ‘reboot’ of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. You might recall that Ocarina Of Time was the #1 game on my top 100 list of greatest video games of all time.
I was highly interested in what the reboot on the 3DS would bring. Turns out that the graphics are a bit better, but not overwhelming. You can see for yourself on the images. Each image is clickable so you can see it larger. The image on the left is the original N64 version and the right is the 3DS version.
Apparently, the 3DS version will also feature the Master Quest. The Master Quest is basically a remixed version of Ocarina of Time. Enemies are more difficult, puzzles have been altered, items are in different locations, and the entire world has been mirrored so that areas that were once to the west are now to the east. Anyone that played the original title, but not the Master Quest, will have a somewhat new experience with it.
Other then that, there’s also a new hint system and a boss rush mode. The boss rush mode is called Boss Challenge. After players reach a “certain point” in Ocarina of Time 3D, they can participate in the Boss Challenge, which lets them go back and face previously defeated bosses. Those that want to test their skill can even face every boss one after the other in a continuous battle. I assume there’s some kind of reward system in place for the Boss Challenge, but if so it wasn’t revealed. The hint system are basically short video’s that give hints on how to solve the game’s puzzles.
Below you’ll find another comparison, this time the 2 opening cinematics. The first one is the N64 version, and the second is the 3DS version (there’s some other stuff in it as well, couldn’t find a better one), the third clip is just another compilation of screenshots to show the difference between the 2 versions.. Enjoy.
What do you guys think? Is this worth the X amount of dollars/euros for a game you probably already played? Not to mention the 3DS cost if you don’t already have one. For me personally, no. I like playing it on the N64 but I’m not spending a load of money just to play the same game again, even if it has been enhanced. Let me know what you think in the comment section below!
